The Newton Eagles Varsity baseball team faced a challenging series of games, securing one victory before falling in three consecutive matchups.

Victory Over Charleston Varsity Trojans
Newton Eagles Varsity started strong with a 2-1 win against the Charleston Varsity Trojans. Quincy Fulton put the Eagles on the board early with a bases-loaded walk in the first inning. Kohlten Barthelme extended the lead in the third with a single down the left field line. Pitcher Drake Wolf secured the win, allowing only one run over five and one-third innings, with Eli Wolf earning the save. The Eagles tallied 10 hits, led by Dominic Baltzell, who went 3-for-4.

Tough Loss Against Pana Varsity Panthers
The Eagles fell to the Pana Varsity Panthers 4-2 on Saturday. Newton started well, scoring twice in the first inning, but Pana took the lead in the fifth. Newton struggled offensively, recording just five hits. Despite strong performances from pitchers David Ferguson and Reed Tharp, Pana’s solid defense and three double plays kept the Eagles from making a comeback.

High-Scoring Battle Against Mt. Carmel Golden Aces
On Monday, Newton Eagles Varsity suffered an 8-5 loss against Mt. Carmel Golden Aces. Newton took an early lead but was overpowered in the third inning when Mt. Carmel scored five runs. The Eagles managed to tie the game in the sixth before two costly errors allowed Mt. Carmel to regain control. Dominic Baltzell led Newton with two RBIs, while Quincy Fulton and Drake Wolf each had two hits.

Falling Short Against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg
Tuesday’s game against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Varsity Hatchets ended in another close defeat, 5-3. Newton briefly took the lead in the fourth inning after a two-run double from Drake Wolf. However, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg surged back in the sixth, scoring three runs to take the win. Wolf and Dexter Fulton each had two hits for Newton, but a strong pitching performance from Windsor’s Blayzz Verdeyen shut down the Eagles’ offense in the final innings.
