In a thrilling pitcher’s duel that came down to the final at-bat, the NCHS Varsity Eagles emerged victorious over the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces with a dramatic walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning on Thursday, winning 1-0.
Scoreless through six innings, the game saw both teams locked in a battle of defensive grit and stellar pitching. But with the pressure on and a runner in scoring position, Bailee Frichtl stepped up to the plate and delivered. Her clutch single brought in the winning run and sent the Eagles home with a well-earned victory.
NCHS pitcher Amelia Collins was lights out in the circle, earning the complete-game win. Over seven innings, Collins gave up just three hits and no runs, while striking out four and walking three. Her calm presence and pinpoint control helped keep the Lady Aces off the board all night.
Opposing pitcher Keepes was equally impressive for Mt. Carmel, tossing six and one-third innings and allowing only three hits and one run. She struck out five and walked one in a strong performance that kept her team in the game until the very end.
Offensively, Frichtl not only delivered the game-winning RBI but also went 1-for-3 on the night. Allie Hermann and Alisson Stanley each added a hit for the Eagles, who made the most of their limited opportunities at the plate. Defensively, the Eagles were solid, turning a key double play to hold off the Lady Aces’ momentum.
Mt. Carmel’s lineup showed depth, with number nine hitter Harris leading the team with two hits in three at-bats. The Lady Aces played error-free defense, with Lewis leading the way in the field with five chances handled cleanly.
With the win, NCHS Varsity Eagles improve their season record and look to keep their momentum rolling as they head into Friday’s matchup against the Altamont Varsity Lady Indians which is also the annual Autism Awareness game.
Stay tuned as the Eagles aim to build on this exciting walk-off win and continue their climb in the season standings.
