The Newton Eagles Varsity 2025 baseball team delivered a dominant performance on Thursday night, blanking the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity 2025 by a score of 8-0 at home.

The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, as Quincy Fulton launched a home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning on an 0-2 count, igniting the Newton offense early.

In the third inning, the Eagles extended their lead thanks to a string of key offensive plays. A pair of singles from Carson Barthelme and Dominic Baltzell, along with a well-executed tag up by Gavin Meinhart, padded the Eagles’ lead and put the Golden Aces on their heels.

On the mound, Drake Wolf was in command from start to finish. The senior hurler threw a complete game shutout, allowing just six hits while striking out one and walking two over seven innings of work. His steady presence kept Mt. Carmel off balance all night.

Levi Banks took the loss for the Golden Aces, going five innings and allowing eight runs—only four of them earned—on 10 hits, with two strikeouts and no walks.

Offensively, the Eagles racked up 11 hits. Baltzell led the charge from the seven-hole, going 3-for-4 to pace the Newton bats. Barthelme and Fulton each collected two RBIs, while Reed Tharp and David Ferguson also chipped in with multiple hits.

Newton’s defense was flawless, turning three double plays and committing zero errors. Catcher Hayden Mulvey was a steady force behind the plate, recording a team-high four fielding chances.

Despite the loss, Ryder Sloss was a bright spot for Mt. Carmel, going 3-for-3 at the plate.

With the win, Newton Eagles Varsity 2025 improves their record and builds momentum heading into their next matchup. They’ll hit the road Monday to face the Marshall Varsity Lions in what promises to be another competitive outing.
