Alisson Stanley delivered a standout performance at the plate Monday night, driving in four runs on three hits to lead the NCHS Varsity Eagles past the Marshall Varsity Lions, 9–7.
Stanley wasted no time setting the tone, singling to left field in the top of the first inning to bring in a run. Audrie Reich followed with a groundout that also plated a run, giving the Eagles an early 2–0 lead.
However, Marshall stormed back in the bottom of the second, erupting for five runs on five hits. Haley McGuire delivered the inning’s biggest blow with a three-run homer to left field, putting the Lions up 5–2.
Unshaken, NCHS responded in the third with a run-scoring single from Stanley and again took control in the top of the fourth. Addyson O’Dell, Stanley, and Reich all contributed key hits in a four-run inning that put the Eagles back on top, 8–5.
Marshall made it interesting in the seventh, as Lynn Welborn launched a two-run homer to left field, closing the gap to 9–7. But it wasn’t enough to overcome the Eagles’ offensive output.
Amelia Collins went the distance for NCHS, earning the win with a gritty complete-game effort. She allowed 12 hits and seven runs, striking out eight and walking none. McGuire took the loss for Marshall, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) across four innings, with three strikeouts and no walks.
NCHS totaled 14 hits on the day, with multiple hits coming from Stanley, Allie Hermann, O’Dell, Avery Mulvey, Camryn Martin, and Reich. The Eagles were flawless defensively, committing no errors and turning one double play. Stanley also led the team in fielding chances with eight.
Marshall matched NCHS in defensive precision, also playing an error-free game and turning one double play. McGuire and Welborn combined for six hits, while Welborn drove in four runs and went 3-for-4 at the plate. Kyla Gustafson chipped in with two hits for the Lions.
Next, the NCHS Varsity Eagles will face off against the Paris Tigers on Thursday, looking to build on their momentum and continue their strong play.
