
Newton Boys Track and Field Earns Runner-Up at 17-Team Meet
The Newton Eagles boys track and field team delivered an outstanding performance at a 17-team meet, finishing second overall with 90.5 points. Charleston claimed the team title with 99 points, while Effingham (77), Altamont (72), and Robinson (50) rounded out the top five.
Newton showcased strong performances across the board, highlighted by Hayden Borgic, who led the Eagles with a first-place finish in the 800 meters (2:04.06) and contributed to high-scoring relays.
Sprint Highlights:
- Quincy Fulton placed 5th in the 100 meters (11.55 PR) and claimed 2nd in the 200 meters (23.59 PR).
- Evan Zumbahlen added depth with a 9th-place finish in the 100 meters (11.81 SR).
- In the 400 meters, Parker Harris (55.38) and Daniel Falcioni (1:00.30) placed 9th and 18th respectively.
Distance Events:
- Along with Borgic’s gold in the 800m, Jackson Sornberger placed 7th (2:11.85).
- In the 1600m, Wade Ochs (5:17.46) and Alec Bower (5:27.22 PR) represented Newton.
Hurdles:
- Owen Schackmann delivered strong results with 3rd in the 110m hurdles (16.13) and 4th in the 300m hurdles (43.27).
- Grayson Lingafelter, only a freshman, clocked a PR of 50.10 in the 300m hurdles and finished 10th in the 110m hurdles.
Relays:
- Newton’s relay teams showed solid team depth:
- 4th in the 4x100m (45.11)
- 8th in the 4x200m (1:39.49)
- 2nd in the 4x400m (3:35.21)
- 2nd in the 4x800m (8:40.80)
Field Events:
- In the throws, Dominic Baltzell placed 6th in shot put (12.97m PR), and Wade Wickham was 5th in discus (40.46m PR).
- Wickham also earned a 3rd-place finish in the pole vault (3.86m SR), while Evan Holder cleared 3.40m (PR) for 8th.
- Henry Will jumped 5.74m (SR) for 4th in long jump.
- Owen Schackmann also placed 5th in the triple jump (11.40m).
- Grayson Lingafelter and Max Hieser cleared 1.75m (PR) and 1.65m in the high jump, finishing 8th and 15th, respectively.
Newton’s balanced attack across sprints, distance, hurdles, relays, and field events helped them secure a well-earned second-place finish. With standout performances from veterans and promising showings from freshmen, the Eagles are showing depth and momentum as the season progresses.
