Adeline Catherine (Westendorf) Miller, age 104, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 9:55 PM – Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Helia Healthcare of Newton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Father Dean Probst celebrating mass. The burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM – Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the church. There will also be visitation from 9:30 to 10:00 AM, before the mass. In loving memory of Adeline, memorials may be made to Saint Thomas School or for masses. Adeline was born on January 27, 1922, in the Bishop Creek Community of Effingham County, Illinois, the daughter of Leo Westendorf and Clara (Niemerg) Westendorf. She married Roscoe Herman Miller on October 17, 1944, at Saint Aloysius Catholic Church in Bishop Creek. They were married 66 years, before Roscoe preceded her in death on February 7, 2011. They were blessed with six children, Marilyn, Larry, Gerald, Shirley Ann, John and Louis.
Adeline started working at a young age in Chicago, as a nanny and housekeeper. During World War II, she worked in a defense plant as a “Rosie the Riveter”. Later she worked for Cater Vend at the United Technologies Plant in Newton and retired after several years of service.
Adeline was a faithful member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She had a great devotion for praying the Rosary.
Adeline enjoyed gardening, quilting, and baking and was known for her delicious pies and famous sugar cookies.

Grandchildren – Sandy (Claude) Wilson, Cindy (Mike) Griffith, Randy (Amy) Woodard, Will (Jenny) Fritchley, Denise (Jimmy) Stamper, Laura (Ryan) Guenin, Jeff (Sara) Miller, Ken (Anne) Miller, Christopher (Kit) Miller, Matthew Miller, Mallory (Brady) Hammon, Justin (Marie) Guenin, and Lisa (Jack) Jones
Brother – George (Jeanette) Westendorf of Teutopolis, Illinois
Sisters-in-law – Lucy Westendorf of Effingham, Illinois, Charlene Westendorf of Bishop Creek, Illinois

Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Marilyn Clara Fritchley, daughter-in-law Anna Marie Miller, siblings Roger Westendorf, Lorraine Jones, Olivia Will, Eugene “Whitey” Westendorf, and Ralph Westendorf, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Alberta Westendorf, Raymond Jones, Pete Will, Maurice (Lola) Miller, Edward (Rosemary) Miller, Bernard (Marjorie) Miller, Ralph (Rosalie) Miller Sarah Miller and Maxine (Bob) Koontz.
