
The Newton Eagles boys tennis team delivered a solid all-around performance, defeating Robinson 6-3 behind a dominant showing in singles play.
Newton secured four of the six singles matches, setting the tone early and putting pressure on Robinson throughout the afternoon.
At No. 3 singles, Brett Bower bounced back after dropping the first set to earn a hard-fought victory over Cohlson Fearday, 2-6, 6-1, 10-1. Noah Goad added another key win at No. 4, handling Kaiden Anderson-Wisnewski in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
The Eagles continued to build momentum as Tyler Spiker took care of Jude Bonnell at No. 5, 6-2, 6-3, while Ryan Spiker edged out a competitive first set tiebreak before finishing strong in a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Peyton Armstrong at No. 6.
Robinson picked up wins at the top two singles spots, where Ian Schmidt defeated Kahlin Michl, 6-4, 6-3, and Jacob Meese topped Michael Shamhart, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles play, Newton added two more victories to seal the team win. The No. 2 duo of Noah Goad and Michael Shamhart battled to a 6-2, 7-5 win over Fearday and Anderson-Wisnewski. At No. 3 doubles, Tyler Spiker and Gabriel Maldonado secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Bonnell and Armstrong.
Robinson’s lone doubles win came at No. 1, where Schmidt and Meese defeated Newton’s Kahlin Michl and Brett Bower, 6-2, 6-2.
