NEWTON, Ill. — The Newton Community High School Lady Eagles wasted no time asserting control Friday, powering past Beecher 11-0 in a dominant home performance.
Newton set the tone early in the bottom of the first inning when Audrie Reich (#13) launched a home run to left field. Moments later, Allie Hermann (#14) doubled to bring in another run, giving the Lady Eagles a quick 2-0 advantage.
The Eagles continued to build momentum in the second, capitalizing on a Beecher error to extend the lead to 3-0.
A five-run third inning put the game firmly out of reach. Jorjia Reich (#5) delivered an RBI double, Hermann added an RBI single, and Gabbie Flowers (#2) contributed a run-scoring hit. Newton also took advantage of Beecher miscues to round out the big inning.
Hermann led the offensive charge with a standout performance, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and four RBIs. Reich also had a big day at the plate, collecting multiple hits and driving in runs, while Jacee Dhom (#26) added two hits of her own as part of Newton’s 11-hit effort.
In the circle, Emma Inyart (#6) was nearly untouchable. The left-hander earned the win, allowing just three hits over four shutout innings while striking out seven and walking none. Karly Deckard (#30) came on in relief and was equally impressive, tossing a perfect inning with three strikeouts.
Defensively, the Lady Eagles were flawless, committing zero errors. Reich led the team with seven chances in the field, helping anchor a clean performance behind their pitchers.
Beecher managed just three hits in the contest and struggled to generate offense against Newton’s pitching staff.
Newton improves with a strong all-around showing and will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup on the road against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.
