Josie Grunloh Signs with Kaskaskia

Josie Grunloh, daughter of John and Janet Grunloh, has signed to play softball at Kaskaskia College after graduating from Newton Community High School. Josie will be going in as a middle infielder, shortstop and second base. During her time at NCHS she has participated in softball for four years, basketball for two years, volleyball and cross country for one year, and been a member of the Captains Club, FCA and Spanish Club.

What made you decide this school was the best fit for you?

When deciding on schools to attend after high school I wanted somewhere that wasn’t too close to home but not too far. Kaskaskia was just the right distance. After talking with the new softball Coach John Barnes, and his plans for the program it was very promising and sounded like something that I would love to be a part of. Kaskaskia also has the program I am looking to pursue.

What are at least two life lessons you have learned from sports?

Sports have taught me that everything in life isn’t handed to you. Working hard for what you want is very important and you should work hard every day even when nobody is watching.

How have your coaches (and assistant coaches) helped prepare you to play at a collegiate level?

Playing for Coach Beam, Coach Cleaver and the rest of the coaching staff prepared me by pushing me to do my best. They have helped me build my love and passion for the game.

What will you miss the most next year about not being a Newton Eagle?

I will miss all the close friendships I have developed in high school. I will miss not playing with the same girls I have played with since I was 9 years old. It will be a different and exciting adjustment to make.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to give a special thanks to my parents that have helped me along the way to make this possible. For bringing me to all my practices and all of my games. Thank you to all of my coaches and teammates that have pushed me to be my best.
