Obituary

Majorie Cathern Huckabee, 95, formerly of Newton, Illinois, passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, in Avon, Indiana. 

Born on June 5, 1927, in Jasper County, Illinois, Marjorie was the daughter of Clyde Joseph and Clella Juanita (Osborne) Earnest. On August 20, 1945, Majorie married Odis O’neal Huckabee. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Juanita Lewis, her daughter, and sisters Harriet Joergens and Betty Scherer. 

Marjorie owned and operated an in-home daycare in Newton until her retirement. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Ladies Auxiliary in Newton, Illinois; a proud American, she could often be found working on a number of red, white, and blue-themed projects. 

Majorie leaves her children; Cathern Monroe of Owel Crossroads, Alabama, Tommy Huckabee of Oxford, Mississippi, Betty Holland of Avon, Indiana and Margaret and son-in-law Bruce Judge of Speedway, Indiana; her loving grandchildren, Frank Monroe, Leigh Ann Gray, David Huckabee, Molly Scott, Rebecca Lewis, Michael Holland, Susan Becker, Daniel Holland, Scott Lewis, Brent Lewis, Victoria Baker, Alexander Judge, and Sydney Judge; sister, Rita Clark of Indianapolis, Indiana; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. 

Graveside services will be held at 12:45 p.m., September 10 at Brooks Cemetery, Jasper County Illinois.  Visitation will be from 11:30 to 12:30 at Crain Funeral Home, Newton Illinois. The burial service will be held at Brooks Cemetery, in Jasper County, Illinois, after the visitation. 

In place of flowers, donations in memory of Marjorie can be made to the Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion or your local Legion post.
