Musical Monday: Oklahoma! Senior Darci Marble

The NCHS production of Oklahoma! will be held on March 21st through 24th. Tickets are on sale at the high school office and St. Thomas School. Those wanting to purchase hospitality room tickets need to do so at the high school. Show dates and times are March 21st, March 22nd, and March 23rd at 7:00 and March 24th at 2:00. There were some tickets accidentally printed with a 7:00 show time on the 24th, but it is 2:00.

Each Monday between now and the opening of Oklahoma! we will highlight one of the seniors who will be taking the stage. This week we will be highlighting Darci Marble. Darci will be portraying Gertie Cummings and is the daughter of Gene and Jill Marble.

What musicals have you been in at NCHS and what character/roles did you play?:

In 2023 I was in Mamma Mia as an ensemble member, that was my first musical, and now I am in Oklahoma as Gertie Cummings

What was your favorite musical and why?:

I would say Mamma Mia was my favorite musical because it was super entertaining and everyone got along with each other.

What scene in Oklahoma was your favorite and why?

I would say my favorite scene is the farmer and the cowman number because everyone gets to be in it and have fun!

What are three things being in the musical has taught you? and how have you learned these?:

The first thing musical has taught me was to be yourself, no one is going to judge you for trying out for a specific role. The second thing would be Going outside of your box. Whether that be trying for the lead or singing in front of people, it is all worth it in the end. The third thing musical has taught me is to be courteous of others and be the best support to your castmates. Everyone needs encouragement and it would help them if you supported them,

What are two pieces of advice you would give young people who want to start performing in musicals at NCHS?

The first piece of advice I would give is to try out for the role you think best suits you. Be that character you auditioned for and find who you are. The second piece of advice would be, that you aren’t in high school forever so use your high school time wisely and live it to the fullest within musical, and have fun!

What qualities do you see exemplified in the adults who help put on this show that you will take with you as you leave NCHS and how do they demonstrate these qualities?:

Every adult there whether it be the Finleys, Our amazing piano player, any of the costume designers, or even our parents wants us to perform the best we can and they are here to help us. Something that these adults have taught me is that they all want to see you succeed and they work hard to make sure you do succeed. One thing that I will take with me is that “To succeed yourself you have to help and see others succeed.”

What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?:

Once that curtain closes, the thing I am going to miss the most is lost long all-day practices with what you could call my second family. I have loved being in a musical with such a talented group of kids and I will miss it all, but I am especially going to miss spending all day with them.
