
The Newton City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, at Newton City Hall, 108 N. Van Buren Street.
Mayor Joshua J. Kuhl will call the meeting to order, with Alderman Gayle Glumac leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The council will then consider approval of the September 15 regular meeting minutes before moving into public comments and committee reports.
Under old business, the council will consider authorizing a $36,634 invoice to Dreyer Painting for painting and repairs at the Newton swimming pool.
Several items are scheduled under new business. The council will consider a one-time $15,000 contribution to the Revolving Loan Fund administered by Jasper Economic Development, Inc. (JEDI), following a recommendation from the majority of the Finance and Audit Committee.
The council will also consider three Tax Increment Financing (TIF) applications for properties at 114, 116 and 118 W. Washington St. Each application has been recommended by the majority of the Finance and Audit Committee.
Another item will address the city’s annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat Night. The proposed date is Friday, October 30, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with a rain date of Saturday, October 31, during the same hours.
The meeting will conclude with statements from council members, the city attorney, city treasurer, city clerk and mayor.
The next regular City Council meeting is scheduled for October 20 at 6 p.m.
The October 6 meeting is open to the public.
