Newton Community High School cross country runners turned in several strong performances on Thursday, September 24, with multiple Eagles and Lady Eagles recording personal best times.
Boys
Levi Salyers led the Newton boys, finishing 15th with a personal-best time of 17:24.0. The junior continued his strong season with another sub-18-minute performance.
Jeremiah Hills followed in 20th place, crossing the finish line in 17:56.0. The sophomore also recorded a personal best.
Alec Bower finished 29th with a time of 18:31.0, while sophomore Kendall Probst placed 30th in 18:34.0. Both runners recorded personal-best times.
Girls
The Lady Eagles turned in an especially strong showing, led by sophomore Heather Bergbower, who captured first place with a personal-best time of 18:13.0.
Avery Geier followed closely behind, finishing second overall in 18:25.0. The junior also established a new personal best.
Freshman Chloe Holsapple placed fifth with a time of 19:46.0.
Nora Street finished sixth in 20:32.0, recording a personal best, while Josie Vogt placed seventh in 21:19.0, also establishing a new personal best.
Kimberly Bierman crossed the finish line eighth in 21:34.0, another personal-best performance for the sophomore.
Senior Kate Bierman rounded out Newton’s listed girls’ finishers, placing 10th with a time of 22:30.0, which was also a personal best.
The strong performances included seven personal-best times among Newton’s listed runners, highlighted by individual first- and second-place finishes from Bergbower and Geier.
