Newton Track and Field Turns In Strong Performances, Multiple Personal Bests

The Newton Eagles and Lady Eagles turned in a strong showing on the track and in the field, collecting event wins, runner-up finishes and several personal-best marks.

For the Newton boys, Hayden Borgic led the way with a first-place finish in the 800 meters, running a personal-best time of 1:59.99. Borgic also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.02.

Henry Will and Matthew Haskett gave Newton a strong one-two punch in the 400 meters, finishing second and third. Will ran a personal-best 52.11, while Haskett followed closely in 52.29, also a personal best.

Brock Anderson had a strong day in the sprints, placing fourth in the 100 meters with a personal-best 11.49 and third in the 200 meters with another personal-best time of 23.76. Brayan Ramos added an eighth-place finish in the 100 and placed fourth in the long jump.

Newton’s boys relay teams also had a solid meet. The 4×100 relay team of Anderson, Eli Wolf, Quincy Fulton and Dexter Fulton placed second in 45.27. The same group, with the order adjusted, also finished second in the 4×200 relay in 1:35.93. The 4×400 relay team of Haskett, Will, Tanner Whitaker and Borgic placed second in 3:28.72, while the 4×800 relay team of Johnnie Brant, Parker Harris, Owen Schackmann and Daniel Falcioni also finished second in 9:03.98.

In the field events, Evan Holder placed second in pole vault at 11-01. Owen Ulm finished fourth in shot put with a personal-best throw of 43-10, while Harrison Kinkade added personal bests in both shot put and triple jump.

For the Lady Eagles, Stella Schackmann continued to lead Newton in the sprints and jumps. Schackmann placed second in both the 100 meters with a time of 12.50 and the 200 meters in 26.20. She also won the long jump with a mark of 16-02.50.

Emma Schumacher picked up a first-place finish in pole vault, clearing 9-07. Schumacher also ran on Newton’s second-place 4×100 relay team, joining Mariah McVicar, Morgan Schafer and Schackmann for a time of 50.83.

Layna Marshall had another strong distance performance, placing fourth in the 1600 meters in 5:42.32 and second in the 3200 meters with a personal-best time of 11:49.05. Heather Bergbower also recorded personal bests in both the 1600 and 3200.

Grace Schumacher placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.87, while Avery Geier finished third in 2:36.03. The Lady Eagles also placed second in the 4×800 relay, with Marshall, Geier, Brooke Gentry and Grace Schumacher finishing in 10:35.85.

In field events, Maddie Brummer placed fourth in discus with a throw of 97-01, Ava Duncan was fifth in shot put at 32-05.50, Audrey Beals cleared a personal-best 5-00 in high jump, and Lena Fehrenbacher placed fourth in triple jump.

Newton’s results included several personal bests across both teams, showing continued improvement as the Eagles and Lady Eagles move deeper into the season.
