Rain Delay Creates Full Day of Harness Racing Action in Newton

NEWTON, Ill. — Rain earlier in the week forced the postponement of Monday’s Illinois Standardbred Association race card, resulting in a full day of harness racing Tuesday at the Jasper County Fairgrounds. The rescheduled Monday afternoon program was followed by Tuesday evening’s regularly scheduled card, giving fans two complete programs of racing in one day.

Monday Card (Held Tuesday Afternoon)

The afternoon session featured 3-year-old divisions along with Topline events.

In the 3-Year-Old Filly Trot Division 1, No Flies On Me captured the win over Little Brindle and GJ’s Moxie Star.

The 3-Year-Old Filly Trot Division 2 went to Sunburnt Senorita, followed by Shady Maple Caddy and Do Better Dez.

In the 3-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Trot Division 1, Lous Lottery topped Zambony and Tow Nater.

The 3-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Trot Division 2 saw Lous Tru Lou take the victory ahead of Woodsideacres Dirk and Zoomster.

In the pacing divisions, Variant won the 3-Year-Old Filly Pace Division 1, while Illinois Deceptive captured Division 3.

The Topline races concluded the afternoon program with Tankmatedonny winning Topline Trot Division 1 and Goomster claiming Topline Trot Division 2.

Tuesday Evening Card

The evening program showcased the state’s youngest trotters and pacers.

Our Irish Rhodes won the 2-Year-Old Filly Trot Division 1, with Zionsmilecreation second and GJ’s Grace Enough third.

The Tom Shinn Memorial 2-Year-Old Filly Trot Division 2 belonged to Zaza, followed by Shady Maple Dream and GRC Mandy.

In the 2-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Trot Division 1, Goomzilla remained undefeated, finishing ahead of Rolex Complex and CL Bonfire.

Voomster captured 2-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Trot Division 2, with ABC Gangster second and Durangos Fandango third.

The evening pacing card featured Dee Should Do It winning 2-Year-Old Filly Pace Division 1, while Shopping Party took Division 2 honors.

In the 2-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Pace Division 1, Fredred Summer scored the victory over Uncle Phil and Skunkalicious.

The 2-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Pace Division 2 went to Donray, followed by Justadoubletake and Fox Valley Lite.

The unique doubleheader provided horsemen the opportunity to compete in two complete race programs on the same day and gave spectators nearly an entire day’s worth of harness racing action at the Jasper County Fairgrounds. Despite the weather-related schedule changes, the races were completed successfully and showcased some of Illinois’ top young Standardbred talent.
