William Francis “Bill” Dhom, age 94

February 24, 1932 – August 13, 2026


William Francis “Bill” Dhom, age 94, of Newton, Illinois and a former resident of Teutopolis, Illinois, passed away at 12:26 PM on Thursday, August 14, 2026, at HSHS Saint Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Father Pawel Luczak, celebrating mass.  The burial will be in the New Saint Peter Cemetery east of Newton, Illinois, with military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion.  A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.  There will also be visitation from 10:00 to 10:30 AM on Monday, at the funeral home prior to mass.  In loving memory of Bill, memorials may be made to the Jasper Post #20 American Legion building fund.  The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.

William Francis better known to his family and friends as Bill, was born on February 24, 1932, in Newton, Illinois, the son of Harry and Teresa “Tess” (Schuch) Dhom.  He graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1950.  After high school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Bill married Lois Brummer on January 8, 1955, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Island Grove, Illinois.  Lois preceded him in death on March 27, 1975.  In August 1978, he married Anne (Henshaw) Douthit and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2021.

Bill worked as a mechanic for a few years and later worked as a salesman in the heating and air conditioning business for 50 plus years and 47 of these years were spent with Steffen Heating and Air in Effingham, Illinois.

Bill was a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Knights of Columbus and the Jasper Post #20 American Legion.  He enjoyed traveling, grilling out and spending time around a bonfire in the woods visiting with family and friends.

Bill is survived by:

Children – Deb Dhom of Newton, Illinois; Tim Dhom of Ottawa, Illinois and Doug (Susan) Dhom of Johns Creek, Georgia

Grandchildren – Dr. Alexander Dhom of Suwanee, Georgia and Sarah Kate Dhom of Denver, Colorado

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, wife Anne, siblings Kate Bergbower, Teresa Marie Dhom, Gertrude “Gertie” Guerettaz, PFC Robert Dhom (killed in action during World War II), Victor Dhom, Joan Beverlin and James “Jim” Dhom.
