The Newton Eagles boys soccer team capped off their regular season in dramatic fashion Thursday night, defeating the Salem Wildcats 4–3 on Senior Night. The victory brings the Eagles’ final record to an impressive 15-4-2 as they head into postseason play.
Brock Anderson led the scoring effort with two goals, while Luke Farley and Henry Will each added one. Will also notched two assists, continuing his strong playmaking presence. Keeper Curtis Weber came up big with four key saves, anchoring the Eagles’ defense when it mattered most.
Defensively, the back line of Wade Ochs, Brady Bergbower, Cylas Dickerson, and Brett Bower put together an outstanding performance, holding off Salem’s late push to preserve the win.
Head Coach Chad Farley reflected proudly on the night, especially as the program honored its seniors — Brady Bergbower, Luke Farley, Wade Ochs, Samuel Rodriguez, and Lance Volk.
“We celebrated a great group of seniors last night! These boys and their parents have been supporting Newton Soccer for a long time,” said Farley. “They led their team in a great effort for a big team win last night! We are going to miss them when they are gone, so let’s show them all the love and support they deserve as they start regional play!”
The #2-seeded Newton Eagles now turn their focus to the postseason. They’ll open Regional play in Altamont on Monday, October 20 at 4:30 p.m., facing the winner of the Pana vs. Vandalia matchup.
The Eagles enter the playoffs with momentum — and a senior class determined to finish their careers on a high note.
