Newton area students looking to get involved in something energetic, creative, and team-focused will have a great opportunity coming up as the Jasper County Junior High Marching Eagles Color Guard hosts tryouts next week.
Tryouts will take place Tuesday, May 6 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Newton Elementary School Gym and are open to any current 6th or 7th grade student. No prior experience is required, making this a perfect opportunity for students who have ever been curious about color guard but weren’t sure how to get started.
Color guard members are an essential part of the marching band experience, combining dance, flag work, and performance to bring music to life on the field. Participants learn choreography, develop coordination and rhythm, and build confidence while being part of a team.
The program encourages students to “spin, dance, and perform,” while becoming part of something bigger—an experience that often carries into high school marching band and beyond.
Whether your student is already involved in music or simply looking for a new activity to try, this is a welcoming environment designed to teach the basics and help every participant grow.
Students interested in trying out should simply show up at the scheduled time. For additional questions, families are encouraged to reach out to their band director.
