
Newton picked up a strong 6-3 win over Robinson, using depth across the singles lineup and two doubles victories to secure the match.
Robinson took the top two singles courts, including a tight battle at No. 1 where Ian Schmidt edged Newton’s Kahlin Michl 7-5, 5-7, 12-10. Jacob Meese also earned a win for Robinson at No. 2 singles over Michael Shamhart, 6-4, 6-4.
From there, Newton answered in a big way. Ryan Spiker won at No. 3 singles with a 7-6 (3), 7-5 victory over Cohlson Fearday. Oliver Ochs added a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4, while Tyler Spiker battled through two tiebreakers to defeat Kaiden Anderson-Wisnewski 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5) at No. 5. Gabriel Maldonado rounded out singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6.
In doubles, Robinson’s No. 1 team of Schmidt and Meese defeated Michl and Shamhart 6-4, 6-3. Newton responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Ryan Spiker and Ochs defeated Fearday and Jude Bonnell 6-1, 6-2, while Tyler Spiker and Maldonado earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Anderson-Wisnewski and Liam Walton.
Newton finished the match with four singles wins and two doubles wins to claim the 6-3 team victory.
