Since there are several new administrators this year in Jasper County Schools, we thought we would take the time to introduce both the veteran administrators and the new ones. Today, we start with our high school and jr high principal Beth Probst.
Beth was born and raised in Jasper County. When she has free time, she loves to help others and volunteer. She states, “At home I am known as the Queen of NO.” Her husband is Chris Probst and her kids are Brock, Claire, and Kendall. She is an NCHS Alumni, graduated from OCC for her Associate’s Degree and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Eastern Illinois University.
What made you decide to go into education?
I have always loved working with children and wanted to give Jasper County kids the same wonderful education I was given. I love people and this community and want to help continue to make this a great place for people to raise their family.
What are some of the greatest strengths you feel our school District has?
Wow, where to start? The kids are our biggest strength. We have amazing kids and families here. I cannot say enough how lucky we are to be surrounded by wonderful families that want the best for their kids. Another one of our biggest strengths is our staff, from bus drivers to custodial staff to cafeteria personnel to our teachers and everyone else involved we have a VERY strong TEAM that does what is best for all kids everyday. Finally, I would have to say our community is another strength! They always stand behind us and rally around us when we need them. The support they show our district is unbelievable and we are so much better having them in our corner.
What are some of the greatest improvements you have seen over the years?
I think one of the greatest improvements is our focus on students social and emotional aspects. See the next answer for more details…. Another great improvement over the years was the last renovation at the high school where we made a more secure entrance into the building through the main office. I think the updates and renovation made a more secure and productive learning environment for our kids.
How have educational priorities changed since you began teaching?
I think a big change has been focusing on the whole child which means not only paying attention to what students are learning but are we meeting all their needs including socially and emotionally. We have to make sure every aspect of a child is being addressed.
What do you feel are the most important qualities of an educator and why?
The most important quality for an educator is a true passion for kids. If an educator has a love for kids, then everything else will fall into place.
