The Newton Eagles faced Red Hill in their season opener. With only two home games, and the second game being homecoming, the season opener was also Senior Night. After each of the senior cheer and football players, along with their parents were announced, the Eagles took the field.
The first possession of the game began with the Salukis fumbling on the on the second play. After the fumble the Eagles gained possession and scored the first touchdown of the game when Aaron Einhorn dropped back to the 37 yard line and threw a pass to Ben Meinhart who ran the ball from the 29 to the end zone. The extra point is missed. The Eagles kicked off to the Salukis rounding out the first quarter with a punt early in the second.
The Eagles then regained possession, only to punt back to the Salukis. The Salukis had another fumble with a little under seven minutes in the first half. The Eagles and Salukis traded the ball back and forth for the remainder of the first half.
In the third quarter, the Eagles traveled 52 yards for the second of three touchdowns in the game when Aaron Einhorn hands off the ball to Marshall Tarr who runs the ball from the 6 and carries it into the end zone. The team went for the two point conversion, however, it was not good.
The Eagles and Salukis each had interceptions (two for each team and one punt by the Salukis) until the Eagles score a touchdown in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 19-0. Aaron Einhorn dropped back to the 33 and threw a pass completion that was almost intercepted, Ben Meinhart runs the ball from the 10 and carried the ball into the end zone.
