Eagles Roll Past Dieterich, Outlast Mt. Carmel Behind Fulton’s Big Week

The Newton Eagles put together an impressive two-game stretch this week, dominating Dieterich 10-0 before following it up with a hard-fought 10-7 win over Mt. Carmel.

Newton wasted no time taking control Tuesday against Dieterich, using a six-run fifth inning to break the game open and secure the shutout victory.

Quincy Fulton led the way at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, doubling twice and adding a single. Dominic Baltzell and Nolen Cleaver each drove in runs during the big fifth inning, while Drake Wolf and others helped apply steady offensive pressure.

Gavin Meinhart was dominant on the mound, tossing five no-hit innings while striking out seven. The Eagles played clean baseball defensively, committing no errors in the win.

Newton carried that momentum into Thursday’s matchup at Mt. Carmel, but this one required a little more grit.

After jumping out to an early lead, the Eagles found themselves in a back-and-forth battle as Mt. Carmel answered to tie the game at 7-7 heading into the final innings.

That’s when Newton’s offense delivered again.

David Ferguson broke the tie with a solo home run in the seventh, and Meinhart followed with another blast to extend the lead and seal the 10-7 victory.

Fulton continued his standout week, launching two home runs and driving in runs in key moments. Baltzell also added a solo shot, while Maddox Horner contributed with a two-RBI single.

The Eagles racked up 12 hits in the game, with Baltzell, Horner, Ferguson, Fulton, Meinhart, and Reed Tharp each collecting two hits. Meinhart led the team with four RBIs.

On the mound, Drake Wolf went the distance to earn the win, working through seven innings while limiting damage despite Mt. Carmel’s offensive push.

With the pair of wins, Newton showed both its power at the plate and its ability to close out tight games—two signs of a team hitting its stride as the season moves forward.
